Memorable Match

I recall Dad mentioning some great matches that he attended at the Baseball Ground. Perhaps his favourite was the demolition of Real Madrid in 1975. He was standing on the pop side next to a Real supporter who was banging his drum throughout the match. There are highlights of the game here

The most memorable game I saw with Dad was against Forest in an FA Cup tie in 1983. Forest were flying high in Div 1, Derby were at the bottom of Div 2. It was the first competitive game between the two sides for a number of years and pitted Clough against Taylor for added spice. It was the first time I had been at a match with a real atmosphere. The place was deafening! We were sitting/standing in the Ley Stand and had had objects thrown at us by the Forest Fans - Dad was hit on the head by a coin - a bit sore but he was ok. Derby won the game incredibly 2-0 with a cracking goal from  a free kick by Archie Gemmill. The place erupted for each goal and the final whistle. Derby went on to have a great cup run and escaped relegation. After the match walking back through the crushing crowd and dark streets around Normanton (I was scared I would be separated from Dad) Dad mentioned - you will remember this game. He was right!
